More Time Spent on Social Networking

According to Nielsen, global consumers increased the amount of time they spent on social networking sites like Facebook and Nielsen global web traffic for social networking sitesTwitter by 82% in December 2009 compared to December 2009.  That means in December 2009, Facebook recorded recorded about 110 million unique visitors.  That is a lot of visits!  Facebook is currently the largest of the social networks.

Given these numbers, it is amazing to think that some people are still not using this medium to it full potential as a marketing and communications tool.  Many people always ask me what their value is to being involved on a platform like Facebook.  What would you say to that or your managers if they asked you?

Companies and organizations need to be investing in social networks as marketing communication tools.  You should be communicating with people where they are already going, making a connection, and directing them to information on your website.  It just amazes me that people are not doing this.

There are lots of ways that you could be interacting with your users/consumers on platforms like Facebook and a lot of customizations that could be implemented.  Let me know what’s on your mind and what questions you have.
